Bruce L. Katcher, Ph.D.

The work of Discovery Surveys is managed and conducted primarily by our founder, Bruce Katcher. Bruce is an Industrial/Organizational psychologist with more than 25 years experience conducting employee surveys. Prior to founding Discovery Surveys in 1993, Bruce managed the Organizational Research and Development practice of the Wyatt Company's New England office.

Dr. Katcher is author of the award-winning book, "30 Reasons Employees Hate Their Managers," published by the American Management Association. His views on employees and his survey research have been frequently quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, Industry Week, Science Magazine, and The Washington Post, and the subscriber-only section of the American Management Association's web portal. He also authored, "An Insider's Guide to Building a Successful Consulting Practice" (AMACOM, 2010).

Bruce received his doctorate in Industrial/Organizational psychology from the University of Maryland in 1983. Prior to working at Wyatt, he held positions at Upsala College, Rutgers University, and GEICO.

Bruce has conducted surveys for more than 100 organizations including Alcoa, American Student Assistance, Arbella Insurance Group, Delta Dental Plan, Dunkin' Donuts, Fidelity Investments, GEICO, Invensys, Johnson & Johnson, the Lahey Clinic, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Mayo Clinic, Olympus NDT, Revlon, Science Magazine, Sodexo, the Tata Group, Textron Systems, Timberland, Tufts University, Velcro, W.R. Grace, and the Zildjian Company.

He is a frequent keynote speaker on improving employee morale and motivation. He is also a former president of The Society of Professional Consultants and board member of the New England Society of Applied Psychology. He currently serves on the Membership and Marketing Committees of the Human Resource Leadership Forum.

Bruce publishes a free monthly electronic newsletter that highlights the results of his employee surveys and provides management with advice on how to solve problems encountered in the work place. The past 100+ issues are archived on our ITW archive page.

Dr. Katcher directs the staff of DataStar for web development and data analysis. Dr. Katcher and DataStar have been collaborating for many years.
